Bulosan: On American Democracy Lecture, Listening Party,
and Q&A Discussion
The Carlos Bulosan Book Club, a member of the Los Angeles Public Library system, is organizing a free Arts & Humanities virtual Zoom event celebrating the life and work of the Filipino-American writer and labor activist Carlos Bulosan (1913-1956) who wrote on the subject of American Democracy. Two presentation dates/times are available which will feature lectures by Dr. Jeffrey Cabusao (Bryant University) and Dr. Mary Lacanlale (Cal State Dominguez Hills), the pre-recorded world premiere performance of an extended musical work by composer Andres Luz, followed by a Q&A panel discussion with activist and author Peter Jamero, a Manong-generation associate member of the "Bridge Generation." This special event will be hosted by Jaime Geaga from the Echo Park Branch Library in Los Angeles, CA.
Bulosan: On American Democracy is the Winner of the 2023 American Prize in Composition, College/University-Level Wind Ensemble Division. It was also awarded Second Prize in the Social Justice-Themed Compositions category, College/University-Level Division.
